Each year, we generally hire one to two second year law students for participation in our summer program. Our summer associates are encouraged and expected to perform work in a variety of practice areas. At the beginning of each summer, summer associates are generally assigned discrete projects through the Hiring Partner to ensure that they have roughly equal amounts of work and that the assignments are appropriate to their experience. As the summer continues and the summer associates become more comfortable and experienced, they will begin to receive direct assignments from supervising lawyers. By the end of the summer, our summer associates have an accurate sense of what life as a Wilke Fleury lawyer is all about.
Of course, we also want our summer associates to get to know our attorneys as people. To that end, we host various social activities throughout the summer, including our summer softball league, our firm picnic and our end of summer party at Dick Hoffelt’s beautiful home on the American River. We also have a weekly firm lunch where all of our attorneys congregate to rate Sacramento’s finest diners, drive-ins and dives. Past summer dining reviews have included the popular “burger review”, in which our attorneys rated Sacramento’s own Squeeze In as the best burger in town.
